Gorgeous Gisele Blames Family for Anorexia

The supermodel says fashion industry is not to be held accountable

Brazil is among the leading countries that participate in the size 0 ban for models, especially that no less than four girls died these past couple of months after suffering from anorexia. Among the most mediated cases was that of Ana Carolina Reston, aged 21, who passed away after three weeks on a hospital bed, due to complications stemming from the disease.

Since then, the ban against size 0 models, initiated earlier during the Fashion Week in Madrid (which implied all girls must be older than 16 and to correspond to certain standards of weight and health), has been promoted by more and more fashion big shots, to the outrage of model agencies that saw their girls cast aside from major catwalk shows.

'Take care of your children... No money is worth the life of your child. Not even the most famous fashion brand is worth this. Dictatorship of skinny look kills a model', Ana Carolina's mother said after her daughter passed away, thus pleading with models not to let themselves starve anymore. But Gisele Bundchen, who was recently named by 'Forbes' among the 20 most richest women in showbiz, says fashion at large should never be blamed for what happens to the models.

Present in Brazil for Fashion Week, Gisele takes her own case as the perfect example that anorexia is not some sort of special condition models have to fulfill. In an interview with the national media, the supermodel said that she never suffered from anorexia because her family taught her better than that, thus casting all the blame not on the industry but on the background the girls come from.

'I never suffered this problem because I had a very strong family base. The parents are responsible, not fashion.', she told 'O Globo' magazine late Friday. 'Everybody knows the standard for models is to be thin. But you can't generalize and say that all models are anorexic.', the 26-year-old model explained, adding that some girls have the body to become models, while other don't - which makes them starve themselves to get it.

At 26, Gisele Bundchen is one of the most appreciated models in the world, having done work for the biggest names in the industry.
