She’s 24, is only beginning to make a name for herself in the movie industry, but Gemma Arterton already has an accomplishment under her belt not many other actresses can boast of: she’s a Bond girl. With all this, in the latest issue of
GQ Magazine, on whose cover she poses in suspenders and sky-high heels, Arterton insists there’s too much fuss around her looks and that she’s actually quite “average.”
As fans would know, if there’s one thing Bond girls have in common is good looks. They might not be the most talented or experienced actresses out there but, as far as appearances go, they are the hottest, it is being said. In these circumstances, it’s somewhat weird to have one of the beauties in “Quantum of Solace” saying she believes people are making too much of her looks – and yet this is precisely what Gemma is doing.
“In comparison to many actresses I think I’m really average. When I got the Bond film there was this big hoo-ha about me not being hot enough. I have to say, I agree. I don’t think I’m in that realm. There are some really beautiful actresses, like Olga Kurylenko, who find it difficult. It’s frustrating for her but she’s so beautiful that it’s like someone having a massive nose: you are going to take that into consideration when you’re casting her. Whereas I can change my look,” Gemma tells GQ.
Good looks aside, the actress says that she wouldn’t want people to know her for this in the first place, even assuming she looked anything but “average.” This is not the first time that Gemma speaks of her fear of being typecast, having at one point even revealed she had regrets for accepting the Bond part. “I hope people don’t see me just as a Bond girl. I hope they’ll soon see my [other] work and think differently,” she adds for the aforementioned magazine.
Gemma Arterton played Strawberry Fields in the 2008 hit “Quantum of Solace.” Also in it, aside from 007 himself, Daniel Craig, was also stunner Olga Kurylenko, of whom Gemma speaks in the GQ interview when saying beauty can be like a curse and she’s lucky she doesn’t have it.
