The next version of Android is just around the corner and the closer we get to the official announcement, the more information on some of its features emerges online.

We already reported on some of the features that sources familiar with Google's plans claim the company will include in Android M. Things like native fingerprint authentication or more privacy controls will definitely be part of the next version of Android.

But what about hardware? We covered that as well, since we reported earlier today about Google's upcoming Nexus smartphones, LG Angler and Huawei Bullhead, which are expected to arrive this fall.

However, Google has many other improvements to announce this week at its I/O conference. The search giant is to discuss the new features in Android M, as well as the improvements it plans to bring to users.

According to AndroidPolice, Google's engineers are now focusing on improving battery performance, but also on how to trim down RAM usage that eats quite a lot of battery life.

Google Play Services will be optimized for lower battery consumption

In fact, Android M will be all about that, as Google will try to highlight how users can prolong the battery life by using their devices smarter.

One of the teams working on Android M is dedicated to improving battery performance by cutting down RAM usage, and reducing activity off-charger and when the Android smartphone/tablet has the display turned off.

Google's effort to improve battery performance will also extend to its own Play Service, which are known for sucking quite a lot of energy without actually doing too much.

All these and more will be explained by Google at the I/O conference, which is set to kick off on May 28. Stay tuned for more updates on Android M's new features and improvements that are expected to leak in the next few days.
