Google has announced that it will be holding a special press event on Wednesday related to search. The announcement is light on the details, but some of Google biggest names in search will be there.

"We invite you to join us on Wednesday, September 8, to share our latest technological innovation and to get an inside look at the evolution of Google search," the invitation read.

"Speakers include: Marissa Mayer, VP, Search Products & User Experience; Johanna Wright, Director of Product Management; Ben Gomes, Distinguished Engineer; Othar Hansson, Senior Staff Software Engineer," it listed

"It’s an event you won’t want to miss," Google concluded.

Google is not saying anything more, but the speculation is that there won't be any big announcements though it is likely there will be some new products and new features on display.

The event will likely focus on what Google Search has been doing so far and some of the general directions. As Search Engine Land notes, Google has held a similar Searchology event in 2007 and 2009.

Those events looked at the overall picture and provided an update on Google's strategy in search but also featured some product announcement.

Last year, for example, Google Squared, Rich Snippets and Google Sky were unveiled at the Searchology event.

The Google people present at the event may serve as a clue to what will be unveiled, most are involved with what the user sees rather than the technology behind it.

Marissa Mayer, senior vice president of search and user experience is one of the first Google employees and needs no introduction. Ben Gomes, listed as Distinguished Engineer, is billed as Google's search czar.

Google has been testing a rather radical new search results page which updates the listings as the user types the query. Any modification to the query is also reflected in new results.
