A Google Nexus tablet PC is not something that we hear of for the first time, though specific info on the device has yet to emerge.

Google’s Android operating system has been already loaded on a variety of tablet PCs, but none has proved a real success so far.

However, it appears that Google is actually determined to make Android the king of the tablet segment too, and that it might launch its own device to ensure that this happens.

We’re referring here to the aforementioned Google tablet PC, which is now said to feature a 7-inch touchscreen display.

The upcoming device could also pack a variety of cutting edge technologies, the same as other Nexus devices before it, though nothing is known for certain at the moment.

However, it is interesting to note that the tablet PC is said to sport such a small touchscreen display. This means that Google is not launching it as a response to Apple’s iPad, but that it is actually targeting Amazon's 7-inch Kindle Fire with it.

Google did confirm a while ago plans to bring to shelves a high-end tablet PC powered by Android, but did not offer specifics on it.

However, a recent article on DigiTime suggests that the company might launch the device in the March-April timeframe, which means that additional details on it will arrive soon.

Running under Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the 7-inch tablet PC should feature a price tag of less than US$199 (154 Euros) to compete against Amazon’s device.

The launch of a Google slate will certainly help Android gain more market share in the tablet PC segment, the same as Nexus smartphones helped the OS grow in the smartphone area.

Since there are no specific details available on the device, we’ll simply have to wait for Google to make them official. Most probably, this will happen either at CES in January or at MWC next month.
