Major update for the search technology

Since 2001, Google allows users to search the Internet straight from their mobile devices and access the feature provided by the search engine with ease. Although the product provided impressive results, the company was continuously working on it and today, the employees are finally announcing an impressive improvement. It seems like Google tried to improve three major elements of the mobile search technology: the relevancy of the returned results, the personalization of the search queries and the navigation between the results provided by the search engine.

The first one, the relevancy of the search results was improved with several features able to allow you to search exactly what you need. You're now able to configure the search straight from the Google homepage and find exactly what you were looking for. "Because it can be difficult to manage small screens and small keypads, and because mobile search is often more about seeking specific information than browsing for extended periods, we've made it possible to add the information you're interested in directly to the mobile homepage," Yael Shacham, Product Manager, Mobile Team, sustained in a blog post.

The personalization of the search query is based on the search algorithm that is now able to analyze your query and find the information that matches your need. "Search for [us post office], and you'll get listings for the branches that are closest to your set location, and so on," the Google employee added. You're now able to find information with ease because you're not required to choose between the search types (image, blog, local) as the search engine will analyze the keyword automatically and will display the proper result.

The last improvement, the navigation between the search results, was updated with the possibility to access the link with fewer clicks. "once you've entered a location, try searching for [movies] to see top movies playing in your area. Clicking on one of those movies directs you straight to the movie showtimes; one more click and you can even purchase tickets," the employee added.
