Google has just announced plans to purchase Motorola, but it seems that the first handset to run under the next flavor of their mobile operating system won't come from this company. According to the latest rumors on the matter, Samsung is yet again the manufacturer that will bring the next Nexus device to the market.

Supposedly called Nexus Prime, the next Google phone is said to be on its way to the market sometime in October, and should run under the next flavor of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich.

This is not the first time we learn that things might be this way, this brings some more substance to the rumor.

Apparently, the Nexus Prime smartphone is expected to become available in various markets in October, South Korea included, the guys over at ETNews note.

In the country, SK Telecom is the carrier that was almost confirmed to add the new device to their offering, though it remains to be seen what strategy Google plans to adopt with the launch.

Recently, the company started to make the Nexus devices available via wireless carriers, though it initially planned on selling the smartphones only via its own online store.

Chances are that it might consider releasing the new Nexus Prime via multiple carriers at the same time, a move that would certainly boost sales.

As for the future Google Phone, rumor has it that it will be a real power-house, starting with the dual-core 1.5GHz application processor that Samsung might have packed it with.

Moreover, the device was also said to come with a 4.5-inch AMOLED HD display capable of delivering a 1280×720 pixels resolution, and with other high-end specs as well.

In all fairness, Google chose not to make its Nexus devices top of the line smartphones, so as to keep them at affordable prices, but it seems that this might change with Nexus Prime. Keep an eye on this space for more on the matter.(via)
