Google will probably make things official this week

As we previously told you, Google’s new Photos app is bound to be released soon, most likely towards the end of the week, at the I/O 2015 conference.

The application aims to provide users with a separate experience from Google+. At the moment, the two apps are tightly connected to one another. While the Photos app has its own icon, it does not function as a standalone app and is integrated into Google+.

But this will no longer be the case in the near future. The folks at Android Police have managed to get their hands on a pre-release build of the upcoming Google Photos app, which offers a lot of the same features we were accustomed to plus a few new ones.

Just like with Google+, the app will let you search for photos (including for those with specific people, animals or objects in it), back up your pictures automatically, and manage your photography.

Users will be able to pinch to zoom in a gallery to see more photos, and there will be support for selecting multiple photos at once to share or delete.

Google’s Autoawesome feature has been renamed “assistant,” and in addition to creating automatic animations of your images, you can also choose to create albums, movies, stories and collages.

There are a bunch of specifications related to how you can go about that. Albums can include as many items as you please, but movies are limited to 50, stories need at least 5 to get going, and animations have to have between 2 and 50 frames. Last but not least, collages can have between 2 and 9.

The editing interface has also been given a boost, with the cropping interface adding a new rotation wheel and the ability to snap to various aspect ratios.

Interestingly enough, the new app includes photos and video link sharing complete with privacy controls, so users will be able to choose to have metadata removed from the photos that are shared via link.

Keep in mind that the screenshots below depict a product that has yet to be released, so features and aesthetics might change by the time the app is made official. Which might be as soon as later this week.
