Google is putting on hold plans to build a massive new campus near its headquarters in Mountain View. The new buildings are designed to be as environmentally-conscious as possible and to create an environment that encourages collaboration. The company had big plans for the new site, but it has apparently delayed construction by at least six months, possibly a year. Google has confirmed the delay, but did not provide too many details on the cause.
"We want to make our Bay View campus a terrific and environmentally sustainable place for Googlers to work," Katelin Jabbari, a Google spokeswoman, told Mercury News.
"To make sure we get it right, we're being thoughtful in our design process."
Google already had people working on the site, apparently. The buildings in the Bay View campus will be the first the company has ever built from the ground up. The campus is very close to the NASA Ames center and the Moffett Airfield.
In a separate project, in collaboration with NASA, Google plans to build a terminal there to house its company jets.
