It's been a busy week at Google Search with a number of new features and tweaks being introduced. The headliner was definitely the +1 button, Google's answer to the Facebook Like, but if the full-on battle between two of the biggest web companies around doesn't really interest you, there are more low key but definitely useful updates as well.

If you need to get a quick update on the latest stock quotes on the go, there is a new and truly impressive financial results mobile page showcasing how a website specifically created for touch devices can and should look like.

And there's more, a significantly improved similar images feature was introduced, Iraq and Tunisia got their own Google Search domains and you can now search using voice in several more languages.

Google +1

The +1 button has been a while in the making and it's not a difficult feature to explain, both in how it works and why Google built it. With the +1 button enabled, you'll be able to highlight whether a particular search result or ad is useful or relevant to you and maybe to your friends.

It hasn't been rolled out for everyone yet, but you can enable it if you want early access. For now, you can't +1 pages on other websites, only on Google Search, but that functionality is coming soon. You can also check out and manage your +1s on your Google Profile page.

A more comprehensive similar search feature

Google Search Images got a big improvement this week. The feature works as it always had, but it should be much more comprehensive now. Google says that there should be more choices when looking for similar images and you can even find images from recent events. There is also the possibility of restricting the similar image search to just one site (domain).

Mobile users got some attention as well. Even if the financial world isn't of much interest to you, check out the new financial search feature. Not only does it look great on a smartphone, it also works wonderful with touch devices, the buttons are big enough to make them easy to hit and you can swipe sideways to access the five different pages of information.

Finally, international users have something to be happy about. This week saw the debut of Google.iq and Google.tn, bringing the total number of Google domains to 184. Voice Search now also works in Indonesian, Malaysian and Latin American Spanish with all of its variations.
