Google's playing catch up to Facebook in the social networking space, with no real hope of ever actually catching up. Google+ may be growing and some people use it regularly, but it's very unlikely it will ever replace Facebook for enough people to matter.
Still, that's not going to stop Google from bragging about its very own social network. Google+ engineering boss Bradley Horowitz had some choice words for the product he leads.
More importantly, he had some harsh words for Facebook, particularly about the new trend of including ads in the news feed. It's an easy target, obviously, but that doesn't make wrong.
"Jamming ads and agendas into user streams is pissing off users and frustrating brands too," he
said during a conference in New York. "That's not the way the world works."
Of course, it's easy to criticize Facebook for the ads it runs when Google+ doesn't have any ads. With Google's wealth behind it, Google+ could stay ad free and revenue free for years. Facebook doesn't have that luxury.
Speaking of revenue, Horowitz said there are definite plans along these lines, though he didn't provide any details.
