Google’s strategy might prompt brand vendors to abstain from developing Chromebooks

It’s not a secret that Chromebooks are gaining more and more traction these days and most brand vendors have launched or are planning to roll out a model or two.

Chromebooks managed to steal the hearts of customers everywhere due to their low-price tag and decent set of specifications. The laptops have found a lofty place for development especially in the educational sector, and in 2014 overall sales are expected to rise to 4-5 million units.

But sources familiar with the matter, reported by DigiTimes, claim these beneficial developments could be prompting Google to cancel subsidies on Chromebook development. After all, even if Chrome-enhanced laptops are rising in popularity, Google is not making any money off it.

The sources go on to mention that the strategy might discourage some vendors/manufacturers to take up future Chromebook development, which is really a pity. Even so, Samsung is expected to launch new Chromebook models soon, with 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch screens.
