Google’s mobile payment service for Android devices, Google Wallet, is reportedly set to receive a major update soon.

According to NFC Times, Google is working on Wallet 2.0, with focus on the cloud, which should carry payments, offers and promotions. Specific details are still unclear on this.

However, it appears that Sprint, the wireless carrier that partnered with Google for the launch of this service on its handsets, is getting ready for the launch of its own payment method.

Called Touch, the service would put the wireless carrier in direct contact with banks and service providers, and would enable it to control the service without Google’s interference. Sprint is also said to plan opening APIs for the service to ramp up development.

No specific info on whether the carrier will leave Google Wallet aside has emerged so far.
