Google has just updated its Voice application for Android devices. The changelog is extremely short and mentions a single improvement that’s been done to the application.

According to Google, the latest update for its Voice app brings improved reliability of SMS delivery. Aside from that, there are no other visible changes included in the update.

However, the folks over AndroidPolice managed to tear down the APK file and uncovered some interesting information about what’s inside Google’s latest version of Voice app.

It appears that other applications can now read Google Voice’s configuration settings. The information is confirmed in the strings file: “Allows applications to read the configuration of Google Voice, including your Google Voice phone number.”

The new feature has been introduced so that Google Voice’s settings could be imported onto other applications, but other than that there’s no telling how this is going to work.

Google Voice 0.4.2.80 is now available as a free download via Google Play Store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.0 and up. Check it out here.
