One of the nicest features that Google offered to mobile phone users out there was Search by Voice, enabling them to speak the words they want to search for over the Internet without having to type on the small screen of a handset.

Of course, this enables users to search for what is of interest for them much faster than they would if they were to write the words, but little is known on the situations when Voice Search might prove very usefull, and Google seems set to show us exactly what this is all about in a series of videos published in its YouTube channel.

The solution went official back in 2008, and is currently used for one in four searches on Android-based mobile phones in the United States, the company notes in a recent post on the Google Mobile Blog.

“Many of you have searched the web by speaking since the launch of voice search in 2008. In fact, one in every four searches from an Android phone in the US is by voice. In certain situations, voice search just works much better than typing. It’s a lot faster than typing on a small phone screen,” Google says.

“You can search things even when you don’t know the correct spelling. It’s more fun as you can share what you’re doing with your friends. And it’s safer when you’re walking around. Once you start using voice search, you start discovering all sorts of new ways to use it.”

Whether when working or having fun, the Voice Search feature that mobile phone users can enjoy can prove more than useful, that's for sure.

Of course, searching for things over the Internet is not the only manner in which one can interact with a device using voice.

Voice Actions for Android offers users an alternative solution to input methods on devices that run under Google's own operating system, but other applications are also there to expand this functionality further more.

Until more innovations based on voice control are brought to the market, one should have a look at the videos below to learn a little more on what Voice Search on handsets is all about, or head over to Google Mobile's YouTube channel here for more clips.
