Google Voice does come with a nice range of features that enable users make cheap calls as long as they benefit from a Google Voice account, and it seems that students are among those who can take full advantage of them.

Coming with Gmail integration and being accessible via both 3G and Wi-Fi networks, Google Voice can offer more than what phones would be able to deliver in certain moments.

Here are some tips that Google provides for those interested in the area:

"Save your money for something better than minutes

- Send unlimited text messages for free--from your phone or the web - Make free long distance calls in the US and to Canada with Gmail - Call friends studying abroad or call home if you’re an international student for as little as 2 cents/minute"

But that is not all, as the Google Voice service can also offer students the possibility to make calls when usual phones can't as one can call numbers after logging into the Gmail account.

In case there are some unfamiliar with the feature, we should note that one can call phones from inside the Gmail account, and that this feature can prove great at times when the inbox is accessed straight from the handset.

According to Google, “This makes a super handy alternative to your mobile phone for things like:

- Calling from dorm rooms with non-existent cell phone reception - Locating a mobile phone that is buried in the couch - Ordering a pizza when your phone battery is dead

Other options are also available for users, including the possibility to set up a free Google Voice number to ring on all phones at the same time, so that no calls are ever missed.

This number “stays with you even if you forget to pay your bill or change cell phone provider,” Google notes.

Users will also be able to bet voicemail transcriptions via email and text regardless their location, while having the option to send calls to voice mail at times when they cannot or do not want to answer.

At the moment, Google Voice is available only for users living in the United States.
