It looks like all work and no play makes a Googler be less than happy every day. Chris Wetherell from the Google Reader dev team had an entry on the official Reader blog that made me sigh with sadness.
In their offsite day they were able to go to the
Heroes set and witness a shooting of one of the episodes, via a friend that was going to be directing it (I need friends like that is there a waiting list for meeting them or are there special spots where they hang out that are accessible to one and all and do not imply invitations and an a*s whooping if the bouncers find you trying to sneak in?).
Let me just explain why I said I wanted such a friend: he's directed shows such as Lost, Alias, Grey's Anatomy, House M.D., Prison Break, Nip/Tuck, CSI:NY, CSI:Miami, Women's Murder Club, Bones, Commander In Chief, Children of Dune, Las Vegas, V.I.P and many more. In Wetherell's words, "Looking at his resume makes my eyes water [] he's done so much that it makes me wonder if I'm using my Saturdays really as effectively as I could."
Of course it was all a dream for the lucky dev team, with them being allowed to sit behind the director while he worked his magic and getting to meet some of the actors involved such as Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh) and Jack Coleman (Mr. Bennet). The next item on the list that Ben Grayson from the directing team had sketched was some personal time with the creative staff who took the time to explain their work and even took the devs on tours of the common sets used in Heroes, such as Isaac's loft with the apocalyptic painting on the floor (photo shooting session), the Company, the Dawson's meticulously created New Orleans home and the ocular on the Deveaux rooftop (pictures a plenty for the team).
Now I'd give an arm for such a trip, being such the Heroes fan that I am but I was not given the opportunity to. Hey perhaps it's better this way. Not!
