Google is the owner of many online services including mail solutions, calendar, Docs & Spreadsheets, instant messaging clients, blogs, search engines but also Google Video and YouTube. Last year in November, when the company announced the acquisition of the YouTube video service, many internet users started to ask themselves if Google Video, a similar product also owned by the search giant, is a part of the solutions that are going to be unavailable soon.

Because the company didn't provide any official statement that concerns both Google Video and YouTube, the two services that allow users to upload, view, share and discuss videos continued to run side by side with the same features as before.

After a short time since the Google acquisition, YouTube was updated with a new function to allow users to test all the features that are meant to be included in the video service. But Google Video was also updated with a function that enables users to send a video link directly to the mail account of other friends.

Today, Google's employees decided to post a message on the official blog of the company to discuss the matter of Google Video and YouTube and to mention that the two services will continue to run as stand-alone solutions and with different goals.

"In November, we officially closed our acquisition of YouTube, and since then we've received a number of questions about what will happen next. The summary is that Google Video and YouTube will continue to play to their respective strengths. But here's a bit more detail:

Google's strength -- and its history -- is grounded in search and in innovating technologies to make more information more available and accessible. YouTube, meanwhile, excels at being a leading content destination with a dynamic community of users who create, watch and share videos worldwide," said Salar Kamangar, Vice President, Product Management.

The Google employee also mentioned that the company provides a new feature that adds compatibility between the two products by publishing YouTube links directly on the Google Video Search engine result page.

"Google search results already include links to content that's hosted on YouTube. Starting today, YouTube video results will appear in the Google Video search index: when you click on YouTube thumbnails, you will be taken to YouTube.com to experience the videos. Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a service where you can search for the world's online video content, irrespective of where it may be hosted," he said.
