Google's attempt to catch up with YouTube

Google couldn't remain indifferent to the popularity boost enjoyed by YouTube, which now has almost 35,000 videoclips uploaded every day, and has decided that it's time to change something.

As a result of this change, the Mountain View company now allows users to upload and share videos without having to install an additional software application.

Moreover, up until now, those who uploaded video materials on Google Video had to wait 24 hours before they could see them online. The changes made by Google's engineers have significantly reduced the waiting time, the material being available almost instantaneously.

Google seems to be extremely pleased with the improvements, even though the announcement sounds rather "crazy."

"Let's say you've just captured some incredible footage of what appears to be a UFO, and you want to share it online with the world before anyone can claim that you're crazy. Lucky for you, Google Video just made sharing your videos a lot faster and a lot easier (and yes, even a crazy person can do it)," writes George Strompolos, Content Acquisition, Google Video, on the company's blog.

But YouTube isn't wasting any time either, the video service recently introducing a new feature, which allows the upload of videoclips from any mobile device with MMS capabilities and Internet access.
