The horror? the pain?

Valentine's Day is great and all if you have that special someone next to you to hold and share the special times. If you don't, it's a bitter time, sprayed with thoughts about how the marketing industry has taken over culture and society as a whole, bringing out what's worst in people, namely their material side and leaving in the shade the true heartwarming feelings, allegedly celebrated today. I'm not sure which is the better feeling to have, to be involved in or scorn at the occasion to show your love, the jury's still out on that one.

Google, with its populist approach, has decided to share the joy and share the happiness with all its users, but it did it in two different manners. The Google logo featured on the homepage is really nice, showing two older people holding hands, while the woman has two heart-shaped balloons flying behind her, tied to two cords. It is an in-depth approach to what love could really be, not the reddish cellophane and sweets, but enduring and long lasting friendship that never fails.

The second approach is horrible, in my honest opinion. The Google Docs page is pink! Stars have turned to hearts and there's a prominent "Happy Valentine's Day!" sign featured above the search box. Why? I've heard a friend that uses the Docs more often than I do that he felt completely emasculated by the pinkish approach. Like doing something you want to, but feeling completely annoyed, he added.

YouTube couldn't fall behind, so it twisted the Tube into a heart. Not original, but way better than what happened to Google Docs. With all the love flying around, I almost missed that one, but Ionut Alex. Chitu pointed it out in his article on Google Operating System.

What else is there to say? Love each other, be happy and don't use the Docs today if you have a problem with pink.
