Although I would have thought it interesting to see it come down to a honest-to-God fight or brawl, so that you don't understand me wrong, between the employees of the two companies (who don't wander how guys that have nigh to no physical activities all day fight?) and despite the fact that it was well organized in confined space, the showdown was actually one at netball. Or women's basketball, as some might know it as… There shouldn't be any scorning involved when talking about it, netball
is a very popular sport, now.
The Australian teams from eBay and Google have squared off in May the previous time and the result was an ass-whooping that Google received, loosing with 17 to 23. Yeah, they complained at the time that they did not have a netball team, that their starting center was a woman and so on and so forth. Nevertheless, a loss is a loss and they have mustered their forces for about six months, brought some new muscle to the team and challenged the reigning eBay champions to a re-match, which took place on the 12th of December.
All sorts of tactics were used by the two teams, from trying to intimidate their opponents before the game, to cheering so that the opposing team couldn't concentrate, and to wearing the opponent down physically. In the end, there could have been only one, and that one was Google, who won (rhyming too, in case you hadn't noticed).
The eBay had amidst their supporters Simon Smith, eBay VP, who was previously kind enough to run the Google half-time auction of a Google Doodle signed by the original Google Doodler, Dennis Hwang. In addition to the auction, the half time also brought a shooting competition and the money from both events, about 2000 dollars, went to the RSPCA.
