If you've been uploading images to your Google+ account this year, you should get the gift

Google seems to be really proud of the cool Auto Awesome feature it implemented in Google+ and it’s offering a lot of users the chance to get some of the magic. It has announced that it will automatically generate Year in Review videos for those who have systematically uploaded pictures to Google+ over the past year.

If you qualify, then you should check your account in the next week or so and you should be able to view the year-end video among your other content.

This is a really cute thing for Google to do and it should save everyone some time otherwise spent going through countless pictures and videos. It’s certainly going to make a lot more users upload pics to Google+ next year, so that they can get the same treatment at the end of 2014.

“For the many millions of you who used Google+ auto backup this year, we may have one more additional surprise for you. A "Year In Review" video created for you by Google+. It depends on a lot of factors (the quality of your pictures, if our algorithms believe we can auto create a high quality movie for you, etc),” Vic Gundotra, Google senior vice president, wrote on his account.

The Auto Awesome has been around for a while on Google+, creating mash-ups from pictures that are similar in users’ albums or GIFs from images that were taken in quick succession and have close time stamps.

Most recently, Google has also implemented another holiday auto awesome feature, enabling users to add something special to their images. For instance, if users have images where things would sparkle – like holiday lights or sequins – those images can be turned into GIFs that sparkle.

Perhaps even more festive, however, is a feature that enables users to add snowflakes to their images. This can even be done via their mobile phones by simply shaking the device.
