Google has just announced a new update for the popular Google Maps application for devices running under the Android operating system.

The enhancements packed inside this software update were meant to allow users to find places that they have searched for on their desktop easier than before.

Basically, these improvements are destined to offer better syncing capabilities between Google Maps on the desktop and on the Android device.

“Today, with the latest release of Google Maps for Android, we’re making it faster and easier for you to get the information you’ve searched for on your browser, right on your Android phone,” Keiji Maekawa, software engineer, Google Maps, notes in a blog post.

To benefit from this feature, users will simply have to make sure that they have signed in to Google Maps and that they have enabled web history in their browser.

Thus, they will be able to take advantage of various benefits that the new Google Maps enhancements bring along, such as search and directions history.

“When you start to type a place or directions into the search box on your Android device, you’ll see suggestions for directions and locations that you’ve previously searched for – making it easier to quickly find directions on the go,” Keiji Maekawa explains.

When accessing the “Search” or “Directions” tabs under My Places on their Android devices, users will also see mapping search history, as well as directions history.

“This way, places and businesses you have already searched for will show up in your suggestions to save you time when you’re out and about,” Keiji Maekawa continues.

“Also, as in previous versions of Google Maps for Android, when you chose to set locations such as ‘home’ and ‘work’, you can quickly access directions to these places by simply typing ‘home’ or ‘work’ in the search field on your mobile device.”

Another enhancement that the new Google Maps for Android comes with is single-handed zoom. For that, users need to double tap, then hold down their finger and slide to zoom.

Those users with Google Maps installed on their devices will receive a notification on the new flavor of the app to update it. Those without the software installed can find it available for download on Softpedia via this link.
