Google silently updated yet another of its Android applications, the Android Device Manager. The software allows Android users to locate their lost devices and keep their smartphones and tablets, along with the data inside them, safe.

Obviously, you will only be able to locate an Android device associated with your own Google account, so make sure you already linked the two in order to take advantage of this application.

Android Device Manager also allows users to reset their device’s home screen lock PIN, as well as erase all the data on the smartphone remotely.

However, the latest version of the application introduces a new feature and some improvements. According to Google, users can now take advantage of the option to set a “call me back” phone number in order to recover a lost device.

Basically, when someone finds your lost phone and wakes it up, a phone number where you can be reached will show up on the display.

In addition, lots of important bug fixes and performance enhancements have been included in the update as well. Unfortunately, no other details on any of these have been unveiled for the moment.

You can now download Android Device Manager for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with most devices powered by Android 2.3 and up.
