SearchMash, the other search engine provided by Google, was improved

SearchMash is the search engine provided by Google that was created especially for testing reasons, allowing the company to test all the new functions that are meant to be implemented into the well-known search technology. SearchMash was improved several times with new features, but the search technology is not as well-known as the best service on the Internet. At this time, SearchMash allows you to search for websites, videos, blog posts or Wikipedia information so the service is quite useful for the majority of the Internet users. Because it is a testing search engine, Google provided multiple ways for receiving feedback messages from its users, the most remarkable being represented by a short survey that requires you to select Yes or No for some simple questions.

It seems like Google updated SearchMash with new interesting features that are going to be implemented into Google Search soon if the users send positive messages for them. One of the most important changes is represented by the "Did you mean?" question that requires you to select either Yes or No for a related search provided by the service.

Another interesting change is that SearchMash recognizes some classes of proper nouns and displays refinements for them. For "Britney Spears", you'll see these refinements: "songs", "albums", "lyrics", "history" and "influences". Unlike the related searches, these refinements are the same for a category, much like Google Co-op refinements. But Google only adds "songs" or "albums" to the initial query, so it doesn't use tagging like in Google Co-op. "Another class of proper nouns is companies. Another new thing is that SearchMash is down most of the time, so you'll have a hard time actually using Google's experiment. But if you'll be patient, you might see the future Google growing in front of your eyes," Ionut Alex, Google blogger, reported.
