Google's search engine is known in the entire world because it provides the most powerful technology meant to help you find exactly what you were looking for, using a single keyword or phrase. Although the company is identified through its search engine, Google provides numerous search functions such as videos, maps, jobs, blog posts or news. Because most of the products developed by the search giant are web-based and accessible through an online interface, the company was often avoided by viruses, vulnerabilities or other threats that are infecting downloadable applications.

Some time ago, Google Public Service Search, a search technology designed for universities or other organizations to help them search information on the Internet, contained a highly critical vulnerability that can allow an attacker to conduct a phishing attempt meant to steal Google account information.

"Eric Farraro, a software developer, found an exploit in Google Public Service Search, a little known service for universities or other non-profit organizations to add a 'Google' search to their website and allows you to customize the header and footer of the search results page.(Similar to the Search for AdSense, its hosted on Google). With a little JavaScript, Eric is able to modified the page, into a normal web page(supposed to be a search page), with login forms," Googlified reported at that time.

Googlified announced today that Google decided to remove Public Service Search because the service wasn't so popular as the company expected, replacing it with Custom Search, a product that allows you to create your own search engine and personalize it for your needs. Some time ago, Google also closed Google Answers, a service similar to Yahoo Answers that is currently an attractive solution for common users and celebrities looking for a platform to find answers.
