In case you're one of those addicted Google Gadget users, this is probably the best piece of news you could read today. As you know, Google Desktop and iGoogle are two different products which are fully compatible with the gadgets developed by the same company. The gadgets represent some tiny tools which can be included in the services mentioned above to add some new and basic functions to them.

For example, an iGoogle gadget can allow you to check your mail straight from the iGoogle page without having to leave it. Because many of the consumers were using iGoogle but always wanted to implement Desktop gadgets, the Mountain View company decided to implement this ability and provided compatibility between the two products.

Basically, you're now able to use the Google Desktop gadgets on iGoogle, a feature which brings a lot of features for the interested users. For example, as Mendel Chuang, Product Marketing Manager, stated today, you can control your music player straight from the iGoogle page without having to leave the website. However, this interoperability exists only in Google Desktop 5.5 Beta which must be installed on your computer in order to use the gadgets.

"With Google Desktop 5.5 Beta, you can you now embed Google Desktop Gadgets right into your iGoogle homepage. Gadgets on an iGoogle homepage can have more advanced functionality, such as playing music from your computer. You can find them alongside other gadgets in the iGoogle Content Directory. We've also improved some of the other features; such as better looking Quick Search Box, support for multiple copies of a gadget, and improved Outlook search functionality," the Google employee said today about the recently introduced compatibility.
