Says it might consider new ways of selling the device

Flurry Analytics released on Wednesday a report that shows the Nexus One as a weak performer on the market, with only a number of 135,000 units being sold during the first 74 days of availability, and now Google has issued a response to the matter. It seems that the device indeed registers poor sales, but the Mountain View-based Internet giant does not aim at selling impressively large amounts of one device, at least this is what the company's representatives reportedly stated.

“We're pleased with our sales volumes and with how well the Nexus One has been received by our customers. The Nexus One is one of a fast growing number of Android handsets which have been brought to market through the open Android ecosystem. Our partners are shipping more than 60,000 Android handsets each day compared with 30,000 just three months ago,” the company stated, according to a recent article on Engadget.

At the same time, a series of other interesting details emerged, including the fact that Google does not plan on selling the Nexus One exclusively online. It seems that other means of having it available for purchase are also planned, including the possibility of shipping it to carrier's stores. “We will consider options for expanding distribution of Google's Android devices beyond the current online store if that will help us serve our Android users better,” Google's representative reportedly stated.

There are great chances that the sales figures made Google reconsider its approach towards the marketing of Nexus One, and that of other Android-based mobile phones that might soon be added to the web store. For what it's worth, the gap between the sales of this device and that of DROID or iPhone was indeed high enough to make them think twice, though it still remains to be seen what they will do on the matter. Not to mention that the availability of AT&T, Verizon and Sprint-capable Nexus One models should also boost sales.

Additionally, the Google rep offered a series of details on the Android Market, the news site notes, “There are about 30,000 apps available on Android Market, which is more than double the number of apps that were available just four months ago. Additionally, we've seen app purchases increase more than 3 times in that same four month period. So we're not only seeing more developers bringing apps to Android Market, but Android users are also purchasing more apps.”
