Interesting direction offered by Google Maps

Google Maps provides one of the most useful features ever implemented into an online service as it allows you to view maps and other imagery with the entire world directly from the satellites. As you probably know, it also contains a "Get Directions" that allows you to find the best route for two destinations. Googlified discovered an interesting and funny result returned by this feature that calculates the distance and the route for two location separated by the sea. As the publication mentions, it will take almost a month to swim from New York to Dublin.

"Google says that it will take about a month (29 days 19 hours) to swim from New York City to Dublin, Ireland. Sweet, you can save yourself a couple hundred dollars for a plane ticket next time you go to Europe (NOT advised, but if you do, please say that you got the tip from us, we would like to be part of it too). You can swim across the Atlantic Ocean on Google Maps, but not Pacific Ocean? Farther maybe?" the blogger sustained in the article.

However, the feature provided by Google Maps is really useful and somehow correct. Although numerous users confirmed it, I tested the Get Directions features for two Romanian cities and compared the results with my own knowledge. I entered Bucharest, Romania and Cluj, Romania and the results are really amazing. As far I can see, the service returns me the shortest route for the two destinations so I really think Google Maps is one of the most efficient Google products ever developed. If you didn't know, although I guess it's impossible, Google Maps is also available as a downloadable application distributed as Google Earth.
