Click Defense Inc., a company which sells online marketing tools, has sued Google for not protecting the users of its advertising program from click fraud, which caused losses amounting to 5 million dollars.

Click fraud is not recognized as being a fraud according to the law. This method is known in
the advertising industry as the process with which a user deliberately accesses a Web ad, without being interested in acquiring products or employing services from that advertiser.

The competition might use men or programs specifically designed for this task, which means that the advertiser is paying for a service without obtaining a real benefit from it.

According to Reuters, Scott Boyenger, CEO of Click Defense, said in a mail that click fraud represents 38% of the total advertising services. The company is specialized in selling software that prevents click fraud.

"We believe the suit is without merit and we will defend ourselves against it vigorously," a Google spokesman said.
