Google's Chief Financial Officer George Reyes announced that he retires from his position at the Mountain View company but will remain at the Googleplex until the end of the year to assure the transition. George Reyes previously worked with Google's CEO Eric Schmidt at Sun Microsystems but he was also employee of Symantec and ONI Systems. He joined the search giant in 2002 as a chief financial officer but his entire career was marked by the 13 years spent at Sun Microsystems.

"I've known and admired George since our days together at Sun," said Google Chairman and CEO, Eric Schmidt. "As Google's CFO, George successfully navigated our innovative IPO, the regulatory demands of Sarbanes-Oxley, and the management challenges of scaling a global finance organization. Though we fully appreciate his decision to step back from active management, we'll miss his thoughtfulness, good humor and wisdom."

This is the second major departure of Google after Vanessa Fox, the search giant's employee who managed to build an impressive community of users around the Webmaster Central. However, none of the Googlers who left the company said that the search giant is a bad place to work. Google was even named by Forbes as the best place to work for because it offers the biggest salaries bundled with excellent work conditions, bonuses and promotions.

"Working at Google these past 5 and a half years has been an extraordinary ride. I'm honored and flattered to have been a part of this great management team. I know I'm leaving the company in good hands with a remarkable team of professionals that will continue to build on Google's tremendous achievements," said George Reyes.

"George has been a full partner in Google's global growth and development," added Google co-founder, Larry Page. "He has done an excellent job in keeping us financially disciplined while protecting the best of our entrepreneurial culture."
