Google Sends Private Emails to Wrong Recipients

- More problems with the Google AdSense emails

By: Bogdan Popa, Security and Search Engines Editor

The Mountain View-based company has once again sent private emails to the wrong people, all of them registered users of AdSense, Google's advertising platform.
According to a thread on the WebmasterWorld forum, a few AdSense users have received an email message titled "Important Account Information", that asked them to accept the updated terms and conditions which have been revised in February. What's interesting is that the email was meant to be sent to all the AdSense customers who had not accepted the terms and conditions yet but, due to what appears to be a mistake made by one of the Google employees, it never made it to its destination.

Some of the users who received the email message said they had already accepted the new terms and conditions, so the email didn't provide any information about a re-accepting method. Moreover, consumers could not respond to the email and no other contact information was included.

However, a post of AdSenseAdvisor on the same WebmasterWorld topic clarified the issue and confirmed that it was just another email message sent by Google to the wrong recipients.

"Our team sent an email today with the subject line "Important Account Information", which was a reminder to accept the February changes to the Terms and Conditions. However, we have found that we sent the email to a number of publishers who already agreed to the new terms. We apologize for the confusion caused, and in the next few days we will be sending another message to publishers who received today's email in error," AdSenseAdvisor wrote in a message posted on WebmasterWorld.

According to Search Engine Roundtable, this is the second Google mistake in a row, because just a few months ago, the Mountain View-based company has sent a suspicious email message to the registered publishers asking them to update the tax information. Because the email message also included a link to the tax update website, some of the readers thought it was a phishing attempt and asked Google to give them more info.
