Google has just announced its Search application for Android devices has just received a major update that brings a handful of important new features and improvements.

With the latest version of Google Search, users will be able to get search results from within applications. This is a nice functionality to have even though for the time being it only works with a select number of apps.

However, Google confirmed it currently works with developers to add more applications over the next couple of months, so we will have more that support this feature.

For the time being, the following application support the search feature: AllTrails, Allthecooks, Beautylish, Etsy, Expedia, Flixster, Healthtap, IMDb, Moviefone, Newegg, OpenTable, Trulia, and Wikipedia.

“Starting today, Google can save you the digging for information in the dozens of apps you use every day, and get you right where you need to go in those apps with a single search. Google Search can make your life a little easier by fetching the answer you need for you — whether it’s on the web, or buried in an app.”

The search within app feature is fully compatible with most devices in the US powered by Android 2.3 and up with the English language enabled.

Other highlights of the latest update for Google Search include lots of new features that will help users find the right application:

- Updates from websites you frequently visit and new articles on topics you care about; - Traffic incidents on your route; - Movies and TV shows to watch at home; - Set repeated reminders; - Support for rugby; - Voice actions: multi-step calling, texting & emailing; checking your calendar; - Package cards now support in-store pickup and more countries.

You can now download Google Search for Android for free via Google Play Store. Keep in mind the application is fully compatible with most devices running Android 2.3 and up.
