Android users who enjoy spending their time searching for information and content on Google will certainly rejoice learning that enhancements are now available for them.

Following the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Google has updated Google Search for devices that are based on the previous flavors of Android.

Mathew Inwood, software engineer, Google, explains that the new Google Search on Android devices should provide users with the information they are looking for faster than before.

There is a simplified UI available for Android users now, along with improved localized suggestions and search results, and more.

Some of the main enhancements included in the new Google Search release would be:

- Faster, smoother performance, with an updated and simplified user interface. - Suggestions for your search grouped by type, with web suggestions at the top. - Country-specific suggestions and search results for all countries with Google domains. - Long press to remove history items. You can have a look at the first screenshot attached to this article in order to form an opinion of how search history, search suggestions and on-device results appear now.

Some other new features were included into the mix as well, easily accessible to all users. Here are some of the additional actions you can perform in the new Google Search:

- Tap the arrow to the right of a search suggestion or history item to add it to your search term before searching.  - Get suggestions from other apps on your phone - check out searchable items in Search settings. - Long press on home screen to add the Google Search widget, if you don’t have it already, to access search faster. Google Search for Android is available for download as a stand-alone application in the Android Market (users can also enjoy web search on their devices). The software is compatible with all devices that run under the Android 2.2, 2.3 or 3.x operating system flavors.
