Google is launching a new blog. It already has dozens, covering products and topics big and small. But this latest blog is not about some brand-new service, it's about the one that started it all, search. While Google has a blog for anything from YouTube to Translate, there was no dedicated search blog.

Most announcements were done on the main Google Blog, but it became apparent that a blog centered on search topics was needed.

"We’re starting Inside Search as a place where you can find regular updates on the intricacies of search and our team. We have more engineers working on search than any other product, and each one of us has stories to tell," Amit Singhal, a Google Fellow, who oversees search at the company, wrote.

Google promises to provide more updates in a more timely fashion on the new blog. Small changes and new features that would not warrant an entire blog post on the Official Google Blog, will get some spotlight on the new Inside Search blog.

Initially, since people knew Google as a search engine and little else, the official blog was also mostly about search. In time though, the blog became the mouthpiece of the entire company.

"In the past we’ve published information about search on the Official Google Blog (more than 400 posts about search and more than 50 weekly wrap-ups), and webmaster-oriented posts on the Webmaster Central Blog (more than 300 posts)," Google explained.

There are also help resources for both regular users and webmasters. There are 50,000 discussions on the search help forums and 90,000 on the webmaster ones.

Despite the fact that Google has branched out to countless other areas, online and offline, search is still central for the company. Google says that it still has more engineers working on search than on anything else. Considering that the search engine is still the biggest revenue generator, perhaps that makes sense.
