An updated version of Google’s search application for iOS is now available for download. The new version lets you see search results and websites side-by-side to browse pages and results, get to the right answer faster with Instant Previews and Google Instant, and more.

Thanks to the new update, as soon as you begin to type, Google Instant starts to display results.

When you decide on a result, “you'll see the page load on a new, slide-in pane that will layer over the search results,” explains Daniel Fish, Software Engineer.

“You can slide the pane to the right to get back to your search results, and even keep scrolling through the results as your web page is loading. This allows you to go back and forth from results to web pages quickly to get the information you are looking for,” says Fish.

Another enhancement is the more vivid image search. Users can now tap on any image result to use the new image Carousel, the direct correspondent of Cover Flow on Mac OS X and iOS.

“You'll see the image you selected expand, and you can easily swipe through the carousel to see other similar images.”

Even better, Google has created a visual way to explore your search history. You basically view snapshots of your recently visited pages, all stacked and organized by search term. This view also lets you manage history.

Instant Previews allow you to quickly compare web pages before you choose your result and there’s also a new tool that helps you find exactly what you need within a web page.

“We've also made it easier to find and use your favorite Google services like Google News, Calendar and more in the new Apps menu,” Fish concludes. Gmail users are being told that Gmail notifications are now part of the newly released Gmail app.
