Just as Microsoft came up with its own Bing solution for handsets running under Google's Android operating system, Google decided to make a similar move with the newly released Windows Phone 7 platform.

The Mountain View-abased Internet giant announced the availability of Google Search for Windows Phone 7 devices too, via a dedicated application (these devices come with Bing as their default search engine).

“Searching with Google on your Windows Phone 7 device just got easier,” Jon Skeet and Nick Radicevic, Google Mobile Team, note in a recent post on the Google Mobile Blog.

“The Google Search app for Windows Phone 7 provides quick and convenient access to a rich set of search results, allowing you to search the web, images, local, news, and more,” the post continues.

According to the team, this is only the initial release of the Google Search app for Windows Phone 7 devices, and it comes with some features aimed at helping people find what they are looking for faster.

“This initial release of the Google Search app includes several features that help you to search faster - suggestions appear automatically as you type, you can choose to repeat a query from your search history, and your current location is used to provide more relevant results,” the blog post continues.

The blog post also states that the new mobile application was made available as a free download for all handsets running under Windows Phone 7.

“The Google Search app is a free download for all Windows Phone 7 devices and languages. Just search the Marketplace for “Google Search”, download, pin to Start, and the power of Google Search is only a click away,” the blog continues.

According to the development team, the application was already released, though, as they state, “it doesn't seem the app is showing up everywhere just yet.”

One thing that is certain here is that the competition between Microsoft and Google is becoming increasingly fierce on the mobile segment, both when it comes to their OSes, and to their search engines.
