Google wants to make sure that people don't forget that search is still crucial to the company. It has unveiled a couple of new things and some updates at a press event earlier. One of the new features for the all important Knowledge Graph is the so-called carousel.
For some searches, Google will now provide a list of answers on top of the regular results page. For example, the "things to do in Paris" query will result in a list of interesting locations in the French capital such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and so on.
This new feature works for things that naturally come together, but for more subjective queries as well. Google boasts that it has compiled several hundreds of thousands of these lists and collections. The Knowledge Graph now recognizes some 500 million concepts, i.e. people, places or things, and knows about 3.5 billion connections between them.
