Google Earth is a downloadable application provided by the search giant that allows you to view maps and other images captured directly from the satellites, as well as other photographs with locations from all around the world. The program is very popular because it owns powerful features, representing a powerful rival for Virtual Earth, a similar tools provided by the software giant Microsoft. As you probably know, the company also offers an online alternative for the downloadable tool, Google Maps that provides almost similar
functions but accessible via an online interface.
Because the two products are so powerful, their popularity is continuously increasing, being used even by the terrorists that are using the tools to organize attacks. For example, multiple online publications reported that terrorists are using Google Earth to organize attacks against UK troops located in Basra. At that time, the company decided to block all the images that displayed military areas, replacing them with older ones that were captured before the departure of the troops in the territory.
It seems like the company aims to take a similar decision in another case, after Google was informed about strategic images offered by Google Earth. In this case, the company will blur the photos and make them low detailed.
“Google's satellite image service will blur strategic Indian locations such as government buildings and military sites after security concerns were voiced by the country's president, the Times of India reported, quoting unnamed officials. Google Earth will not only blur pictures of sites that the Indian government considers sensitive, but also distort building plans of key facilities, the report said. It said that Google representatives met Indian officials from the science and technology ministry recently to discuss the issue,” Forbes reported.
