14 DAY TRIAL // More rumors on the upcoming launch of multiple Nexus smartphones this year have just surfaced. Now it's Digitimes that reports Google's plans to release more than one Nexus device this fall, though specific details are unavailable for the moment.
According to industry sources, Google is readying several Nexus smartphones in cooperation with important handset makers, such as Samsung, LG, HTC and Sony Mobile.
Although these are listed as “potential partners,” we already have reports coming from a different sources that suggest Samsung will launch the Galaxy Nexus 2 within the next few months, while LG is expected to bring its new flagship smartphone on the market as Optimus G Nexus.
We already know that the upcoming Optimus G Nexus comes with a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.
However, unlike previous projects, this time Google will allow handset vendors to choose the design and hardware configuration of their future Nexus devices.
Some of the conditions enforced by the search giant is that these Nexus smartphones would have to be based on its latest Android version and pack 64 MB of secure memory for media streaming.
Furthermore, Android&Me reports that vendors will be allowed to include custom UI skins as part of a new “customization center.”
One thing seems rather strange, Motorola does not seem to be among the vendors working on launching a new Nexus device.
Google said multiple times that the US-based handset maker would not get any preferential treatment, which seems to have been confirmed lately.
In the same piece of news, Google is rumored to unveil the next version of its mobile platform, Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie sometime in November. The next major iteration of the operating system, Android 5.0 is set to arrive by fall 2013, reports claim.
