There are no new features included, but a ton of bug fixes and tweaks

Google has recently launched Android 4.4.3 KitKat for Nexus and Play Edition devices, but many users have complained that their smartphones are now buggy and some features are not working anymore.

Although we expected Google to acknowledge most of these issues that affect lots of Nexus users, we did not expect the company to release a new Android update.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat is upon us, but most smartphones and tablets now available on the market are still on Android 4.4.2 KitKat at best.

Even though not all Nexus smartphones and tablets received the previous Android 4.4.3 KitKat update, Google has released a new version, which will hopefully be brought to all compatible device sooner rather than later.

The good news is that the update contains lots of fixes for known bugs, but also for a vulnerability found in OpenSSL. In addition, there are many tweaks to the WebView, Chromium, and OpenSSL, as well as to some security enhancements.

Unfortunately, there are no new features included in this version of Android, but we do recommend users to download and install KitKat 4.4.4 in order to improve the security of their smartphones.

For the time being, Android 4.4.4 KitKat is only available for compatible Nexus devices, such as Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2013), and Nexus 10. The LTE version of Nexus 7 (2013) has been skipped from this update for now.

It’s also worth mentioning that you need to be on Android 4.4.3 KitKat already in order to update to the latest version of the mobile platform.

Those who own one of the eligible smartphones can now manually download the Android 4.4.4 KitKat factory images, which have just been released by Google on its developers website.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat seems to be just a minor update that introduces some security improvements, tweaks, and bug fixes meant to improve the stability of the smartphones.

The update should make its way to all Google Play Edition devices as well, but the timings for the release depend on region, so there’s no really telling when they will be available for download in each country.
