Google Apps is an extremely attractive solution for most of the Internet users looking for a powerful suite to work with their information and the universities from every corner of the world are among them. Today, the Mountain View company announced that no less than 5 universities registered for Google Apps: University of North Carolina Greensboro, Clemson University, University of Texas San Antonio, Kennesaw State University and Arkansas State University. Obviously, they all registered for Google Apps Education Edition, a special flavor of the Google technology addressed to universities, schools, colleges and high-schools.

"Google Apps Education Edition allows us to provide our students useful tools to be successful in their academic career and beyond. Also, because of the amount of email storage Google provides, students will be able to take their Clemson email address with them for life and won't lose all of their contacts and information the day they graduate," Jim Bottum, vice president and chief information officer at Clemson University, one of the new Google Apps members said according to Portal IT.

"Google has always had a close relationship with higher education. Google Apps Education Edition is a groundbreaking option for universities, and we want to work closely with them to implement smart use of technology for education," Jeff Huber, vice president of engineering at Google, added for the same source.

Google Apps is a very attractive suite of utilities that include all sorts of Google applications such as Gmail, Docs & Spreadsheets, Calendar, Google Talk and iGoogle - the recently renamed Google Personalized Homepage. The search giant offers multiple flavors of Google Apps, including a freeware version available for all the users. Also, you can test the Premier Edition for free for 30 days but this is only a limited test so hurry up and get your account.
