The next maintenance release will be next month

Android 5.1 Lollipop has already been spotted running on various smartphones, but an official release has yet to be confirmed. We even saw a Nexus 5 powered by Android 5.2 Lollipop earlier today, so Google is clearly working on multiple releases at once.

Since Lollipop was launched last year, many people have been complaining of various bugs and issues that almost turned their smartphones and tablets into useless bricks.

All Nexus phones and tablets seem to be affected by lag issues and random reboots, but lots of other problems plague Android 5.0 Lollipop since its release.

Google was expected to deliver a fix at some point, but that doesn't seem to have happened yet and we don't have any hope of that becoming reality until next month.

For the time being, there are no details on when exactly the next maintenance release for Android will be released, but we might have a slight idea, given the newest info that has just popped up online.

Google's next maintenance release is in March

HTC VP of devices Mo Versi has recently been asked when exactly his company will release an update that fixes the capacitive buttons lights for the One M7 Google Play Edition.

According to him, this update will eventually arrive and will be tied to Google's next maintenance release, “which is in March.”

This means that Google plans to release the next Android update next month. Most likely this update will be Android 5.1 Lollipop and will contain mostly bug fixes for some of the nastier issues reported by users in the last couple of months.

So now that we have an idea of when Android 5.1 Lollipop update will arrive, we only need to find out specifics on what exactly it will contain. We'll be keeping an eye out for any additional details on the matter and will update the story, so stay tuned.
