Chromebooks are the next logical addition to Google Play for Education

Google’s yesterday keynote might have been all about Android Wear, Android L, Android Auto, Android TV, but a few other things largely went unnoticed.

For example, Google continues with its educational endeavors and has now made its Google Play for Education service available on Chromebooks, having previously been offered for tablets like the Nexus 7, only.

I know, this is not really a shock. After all, Chromebooks have started out as cheap laptops aimed at the educational sector and this aspect was highlighted in the keynote itself.

The service was launched back in November, but only now did Google extend the availability to devices that are actually to be found in real-life classrooms, namely Chromebooks.

Those unfamiliar with Google Play for Education should know this is a hub designed especially for teachers in the US, which aims to provide assistance and guidelines for the creation of interactive K-12 lessons. For the moment, the service is limited to the United States, but that will surely change in the future.

Now teachers will be able to quickly share Chrome apps with the whole class or adapt content based on their pupils' current interests. Of course, we’re talking about interest in literature, as teachers will be able to monitor their book choices.

Schools that are currently using Chromebooks can follow this link in order to get started.
