Google has started to roll out a new flavor of the Google Play Books application for Android devices, namely version 3.1.23, killing support for PDF uploads in the process.

The feature was made available for Android users in the previous update for the application (version 3.1.17), but it is no longer there after the installation of the new release.

As Android Police notes, Google also changed the application’s description in the Google Play Store, so as to remove the text that mentioned PDF uploads.

Of course, users can still upload PDF files to their library via the web interface, though it was much simpler for many to have the functionality available in the mobile client as well.

Google has already confirmed the change, claiming that the feature was only experimental, but that it plans on bringing it back in a future release. Stay tuned for more on this.
