Google Plans Educational Gmail

Since the release of the Google App solution, the product that is often regarded as the perfect alternative for the Microsoft Office suite, the search giant also revealed a special edition of the pack

especially designed with educational purposes. Although it is available in both freeware and shareware edition, Google App was released in one more flavor entitled Education Edition. In comparison with the other two versions of the service, the educational product provides all the features of the Premier Edition but all of them available for free. The only matter that differs from the Premier Edition is the 99.9% uptime guarantee for email that is not available for the Education Edition.

However, since the release of the solution, numerous schools, highschools and universities registered for the product, attracted by the freeware license offered by Google. Because the educational system is quite important for both users and company, Google is now encouraging users to take a survey able to provide information concerning the Education Edition of Google App.

"Since we first launched Google Apps at universities, students took notice. We've even heard that at some schools like Northwestern, students lobbied their administrators for Google Apps, which includes 2GB email storage, instant messaging, and centralized calendaring as part of their school's official communications package. So if you're a student who's not using Google Apps, take our survey and tell us what you like or not about your current university email system," Jeff Keltner, Google Enterprise Specialist, sustained in a blog post.
