Google+ is quite a good place for photos, it offers some interesting tools for regular users and amateur as well as professional photographers will enjoy the slick tiled thumbnail views to showcase their latest and greatest work.

To highlight just how great Google+ can be for photographers, or perhaps to welcome the photography community that has established itself on the site, Google is now holding a very interesting competition, the Google Photography Prize, for all budding photographers out there.

If you think your work is good enough, you can enter the competition and have it judged by a panel of experts for a chance to have it displayed at a the Saatchi Gallery in London.

"The contest is open to university students around the world (some exceptions apply, see google.com/photographyprize for more details). From far-away places to up-close faces, there are 10 different categories to spark your imagination," Google's Obi Felten wrote.

The 10 categories showcase 10 types of photos, from carefully staged studio shots, to action or sports snapshots. The categories are diverse enough for most photographers to find something that appeals to them.

"And there are some great prizes to be won: 10 finalists chosen by a jury of renowned photographers will show their work at Saatchi Gallery, London for two months in 2012 alongside Out of Focus, a major photography exhibition, and win a trip to London to attend the exhibition opening event with a friend," she said.

"One winner will go on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to an amazing destination with a professional photography coach," she added.

Entering the competition is rather easy, all you have to do is upload your photos to Google+. After sharing the photo you want to enter with the world, you can submit it via google.com/photographyprize. You have until January 31 next year to submit your work.
