Google is a company that is continuously developing software solutions, but the search giant never got involved into the developing process of
hardware products.
Google Blogoscoped reported that Kirby Witmer sent to the company a screenshot that represents a Google-partnered Dell laptop. The user said he started the computer for the first time after the acquisition and he was redirected to a start-up image that mentioned the laptop was built in partnership with Google.
The computer also had multiple solutions provided by the search engine giant like Google Desktop with its Sidebar as well as the Google Toolbar, a browser add-on that allows users to visit websites being protected by a pop-up blocker and other useful utilities.
"The splash screen reads "Welcome to your new Dell PC - in partnership with Google" and lists "several useful Google products that come pre-installed on this computer", including Google Desktop, Dell's personalized Google homepage, and the Google Toolbar. As Kirby's screenshot shows, the Windows taskbar has a little "Search with Google" box (courtesy of the Google Desktop program)," Google Blogoscoped said.
It is the first time when Google is involved in such activities but you cannot name the search engine giant as a hardware manufacturer company because the screenshot shows us that Google provided only software solutions for the Dell laptops.
I can't say if every owner of a brand new Dell laptop finds all these Google software solutions useful because most of them are installing only the programs that coincide with their need.
Personally, I would like to be able to install my favorite applications, without preinstalled software coming from the companies that made partnerships with the laptop provider. You can view the screenshot published by Google Blogoscoped posted at the end of this article.
