Galaxy Nexus, the first mobile phone in the world to run under Google’s new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, is now one stop closer to making an official appearance on shelves at Sprint.

Google has just opened up registrations for Sprint’s Galaxy Nexus, and users interested in purchasing it can now head over to the special page available for them.

The best part of the deal is that Galaxy Nexus will offer support for Sprint’s LTE network when made available for purchase.

The smartphone offers the same capabilities on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless, and it was somehow expected for the second largest CDMA carrier in the United States to offer it this way as well.

In fact, Google’s registration page claims that Galaxy Nexus will be the first 4G LTE-capable smartphone on Sprint’s network.

“Register to receive more information about Galaxy Nexus, the first 4G LTE phone from Sprint. We may also send you other information about Nexus products, services, and features,” Google notes on the said webpage.

One other interesting feature it is expected to include when launched would be the Google Wallet, and the lack of other pre-loaded applications from the wireless carrier (Verizon’s unit has plenty of them).

No specific details on when the smartphone will be made available for purchase have emerged for the time being, but we can expect it to arrive in the first half of this year, based on previous rumors.

Galaxy Nexus was unveiled to the world last year with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform on board, and with a large 4.5-inch (1280 x 720) Super AMOLED touchscreen display.

The handset packs a dual-core 1.2GHz application processor inside, 1GB of ram, 32GB of internal memory, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back and a 1.3MP camera on the front.

It also sports LTE (in the US alone), 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as GPS, NFC, Micro USB and the like.
