Google manages to attract the biggest audience all over the world and its collection of sites leads in many of the sectors it operates in. Overall, Google has the most visitors and enjoys most of the time spent online. Still, while Google's dominance in places like the US and Europe may seem disconcerting, there are countries where the company manages to hold the users' attention three times longer, like in India and Brazil, where Google sites attract almost one third of the time people spend online, according to comScore.

“[T]here are interesting similarities between Brazil and India as emerging Internet markets. Google’s prevalence in these markets can perhaps best be explained by the fact that the time at which these markets really began to develop and flourish was around the same time that Google was becoming a major player in the search landscape,” Alex Banks, managing director of comScore Latin America, said. “As a result, Google became the dominant Internet brand in these markets and its success appears to have bled from search into other areas of the web like social networking.”

In Brazil, Google has a huge share of the market, with users spending almost 30 percent of their time online on Google sites, while in India it's pretty much the same story, with users spending 29 percent of the time on the company's websites. The global average is of 9.4 percent and it's a little smaller in the US, at just nine percent.

A large part of the big gap is explained by the fact that Google has the leading social network in both countries with Orkut and, like anywhere else, social networking is taking up an increasing portion of how much time users spend online. In fact, Orkut completely obliterates the competition in Brazil, as 96 percent of the time users spend on a social network is spent on Google's offering. The site enjoys an overwhelming popularity in India as well, with 68 percent, though nothing quite like in Brazil. The search engine is also very popular, with 90 percent of the time spent in this category in Brazil, and 89 percent in India. All other Google products follow a similar pattern.
